Newborn safety, in detail
Newborn photography is the only genre where the photographer's safety training matters more than their portfolio. Here is exactly what we do — and what you should ask any studio you consider.
A dedicated spotter
Someone whose only job is keeping hands within arm's reach of your baby for the entire session. If the photographer is also the spotter, there is no spotter.
Heated to 26–28°C
Newborns cannot regulate their own temperature. A cold baby will not settle, and an unsettled baby cannot be photographed safely.
Composite posing only
Every pose where a baby appears unsupported — the "froggy", the hanging hammock — is created by merging two fully supported frames in post. Never held that way in reality.
Sanitised between sessions
Wraps and fabrics washed, props and surfaces sanitised, hands cleaned continuously. Fresh florals are used once and discarded.
Health-screened crew
Vaccinated team, nobody works while unwell, and we will reschedule rather than bring an infection near a newborn.
We stop when baby says stop
No photograph is worth pushing through distress. If your baby has had enough, the session ends and we continue another day at no charge.
Ask any newborn studio these six questions before you book — including us. A studio that cannot answer them clearly is not a studio for a nine-day-old.
The window that
makes the pictures
Day 6 to day 14 is the window every newborn photographer talks about, and it is not marketing. In those days babies are still deeply sleepy and still hold the curled posture they had in the womb. That is what makes newborn photographs look the way they do.
Because babies do not arrive on schedule, we do not book newborn sessions on fixed dates. Reserve in your third trimester and we hold a flexible window; you message us the day your baby arrives and we schedule within days.
Past three weeks nothing is lost — we simply shift to an awake-and-alert or sitter-style session. More expression, less curl, equally beautiful.
